Selling Murray A Car

Be aware if you are selling your car to Mikail Loewen, Travis Scarfe or Dave Montgomery at Murray KIA in Abbotsford. They will play shell games, trick you and point to each other as who is actually responsible for a final decision. Even after you have a deal, they will offer you less especially if they know you need to sell the vehicle today for a family reasons. It all started with my vehicle at Murray KIA Abbotsford having warranty work done on it since December 30th, 2019. I received an email on craigslist from Mikail offering to pay me $12,000 for it. He told me he has “clearance from the boss man to cut a $12,000 cheque for your optima, or if you trade in you get tax savings which is the equivalent of $13,440! Let me know if you’d like to bring it by and we can take a look at your Optima! May be able to squeeze a bit more than $12,000 if condition is great.” I then told him that my car has a brand new engine, installed by them this week. I also told him it is in excellent shape and that he can look at it because it’s on his lot at Murray KIA. Mikail then said, “I do see it on our lot. Out of goodwill I can give you $13,500 if you’re looking to trade it in. I can only offer $12,000 if we’re buying it in from you.” I asked him if he could do $12,500? Mikail the said “book value is $11,500. I’m stuck at $12,000 currently. Were just making some calls to see if I can get more out of it.” I asked again if he could do $12,500 and Mikail said, “let me check with Travis see if we can do that for you. I checked with Travis, $12,000 was a pretty strong number for that vehicle. $12,000 is our max number able to purchase your Optima for subject to it driving fine and being in great condition” I told him I could meet there at 3:00. Mikail said, “Yes, when you arrive ask for Dave! He’s our used vehicle manager.” I then began the process of completely emptying out my vehicle with all my stuff. I vacuumed it and wiped all the surfaces making sure it was clean for the next owner. I confirmed with Mikail if there was anything I needed to bring with me to the dealership. He said, “Nope just ID. Have your drivers license on you as well and that’ll be everything.” I arrived at the dealership and met with the front desk. I explained that I was talking to Mikail and was here to sell my car. The front desk lady pointed to Travis as who I should be seeing. I shook hands with Travis and gave him my keys. He asked why I was selling the vehicle and I told him I needed the money out of it for family reasons and that I was buying a $2000 dollar car today to replace this one with. Travis told me he needs to test drive it, had me take a seat and took my keys. Travis disappeared but my car never moved. Then a different guy, who introduced himself as Dave came back within a few minutes. Dave told me Travis had to leave on a family emergency. Dave then said, that Travis told him that they will need to put tires on it and there is a scuff mark on one of the alloy rims. (side note: the scuff mark was there when I purchased the vehicle certified preowned, it has little to nothing to do with the value at this point). So they will give me $11,000 for it. I felt completely cheated and was incredibly upset. I have this pressing family reason to sell this car weighing on me and being cheated and jerked around was the last thing I needed. I told Dave I needed the $12,000 as I had told Travis and that Mikail told me he had it all approved. Dave told me that he couldn’t make the call and that it was complexly up to Travis but he can’t be reached because of this unexpected family emergency. I told Dave I could not accept that price and left. I parked down the road at the Auto Mall and contemplated my situation. At this point I had already spent over and hour cleaning the whole car out and removing all my person items. I committed to buying the cheaper car. I told two other dealerships in different cities that I have a buyer, they too were offering me $12,000. I needed the insurance from this car for the cheaper car today. Time was running out in the day. It was my last day off before I had to go back to work and would not be free for another week. I needed to get this done today for family reasons. So I texted Mikail back and explained my frustration for how they played games with me. Mikail responded, ”When I presented your vehicle to my manager it was subject to drive and great condition. As well as I was not made aware it needed tires. It was never my intention to waste your time, I always want to make sure I provide customers with the best experience possible. I was told by my manager we would offer you $12,000 if it needed nothing. I can’t make the call as to what I can buy the vehicle in for. That would be up to Dave our used car manager. Your best bet would to be to deal directly with Dave on this matter.” Several inconstancies come out of this and it shows the flaw in their shell game and how truly dishonest and manipulative the three of them are. One, the vehicle was on their lot, Mikail said he’d seen it and said he “can only offer $12,000 if buying it”. See quotes above. Two, no one ever test drove the vehicle. Three, Mikail said I needed to deal directly with Dave on this matter as he is the used car manger and its up to him. See quotes above. Four, Dave told me it was only Travis that could make the call on this. Each one of them is pointing to the other as who is responsible for making the call on this. Regardless of how ridiculous that was, Mikail already looked at my car and got approval for the $12,000. A note on the tires, the car was also just in for a regular service at another KIA dealership just prior to the engine warranty service at Murray KIA. There were no concerns about the tires mentioned by that KIA service department and the tires were something they checked over in the service. Overall, the three of them play a very shady, dishonest game and will trick you into getting less for your vehicle.
