Collingwood Toyota does not back the work they do (if they even do it…)
I had the AC quit working in my 2016 Tacoma in July of 2018, with 52K kms on it (warranty is 60K/36mths). I took it to Collingwood Toyota and they diagnosed a leaking O-ring (part is under $5.00) on the AC high side. I waited 5 months for the part to come in. I was in contact with them a few times throughout to confirm I would be looked after if the part arrived after I went over the 60K warranty point. I was told that since it was an "open work order" it would be fine. In December I contacted Collingwood Toyota with some concerns that my windshield defrost wasn't working well (the defrost works with the AC system to clear the windshield) and it was a safety concern. They suddenly could have the O-ring in a few days. On December 21st they replaced the O-ring. It took 164 days (over 5 months) to get the part and I was now at 62K kms. After the work was complete I expressed my concern that I wouldn't be certain the AC was working properly until the following summer when it was warm enough to truly test the system. They agreed and assured me that my case was well documented and that I would be looked after if the problem continued once the weather warmed up the following summer. In June of 2019, once it was finally hot enough to need/test the AC, it doesn't work. I took it back to Collingwood Toyota, they diagnosed it as a leak in the AC high side (same section and it connects with the seal they said they replaced) and that it would be $1200.00 to repair. I went over the situation with them and they stated there was nothing they could do. I then spoke with the service manager and she stated the same. She said the repair in December was a "good will" repair since I was 2K kms over the warranty, even though it was diagnosed when I was 8K kms under the warranty and had been an open work order for 5 months. She also mentioned that had I had my oil changes done there (I live 55kms away) they would be more likely to help me out and try to get this looked after. I have since had an Air Conditioning repair shop take a look at my truck, they have found one leak, right where the high side line connects to the condenser and where the seal is that they said they replaced in December. So either they didn’t replace the seal the first time (the truck was in the shop for less then an hour…) or they misdiagnosed it originally and replaced the wrong part. Still no working AC (15 months and counting…..)
