Proud Father

My son attended Eastern College last year and took the Supply Chain & Logistics program. I just wanted to say thank you for everything you have done for him. From the moment we walked through the door to apply for student loans right up to him walking across the stage at graduation there has been nothing but the best from everyone we met. I would recommend this college to not just students wanting to go to post secondary but to parents who are looking for somewhere for their children to go where they will be helped and supported through the whole process. Once again, Thank all of you.

Supply Chain and Logistics is a very challenging but rewarding course to study.

I found the information that was covered by the Supply Chain and Logistics course very interesting and relevant - especially now that I am working in the field. I do however feel that the course needs to be lengthened due to the fact that some of the modules contained way too much information to be covered/learned in one or two weeks. I felt extremely overwhelmed sometimes. On a whole I enjoyed my experience at Eastern College fun and rewarding.

Eastern college provided me with the skills needed to work at the port of Halifax and obtain a rail coordinator/operations assistant position.

Suggestions

I found the course to heavily concentrated on the transportation industry. Given my personal experience job hunting with the course, actually finding a position in transportation is unrealistic. I finished high school and continued my post-secondary by taking this course, so having relatively no previous experience in the field then taking this which was so concentrated on transportation made it very difficult to find a position. Many transportation positions require experience in this field, I went to numerous job interviews with many different transportations companies and they all said the same thing "you have the education but lack the experience" . So for me I had to go a different route, and thankfully I was able to obtain a position where I had done my work term. I was lucky, in the course there was not a lot taught about Procurement. Had I not have done my work term in procurement I am certain I would still be looking for a job. The course should have a section on that. There it the Atlantic Procurement Agreement, there are many different standards and so on. We touched briefly on different request proposals, but realistically not enough to confidently execute one. When someone asks me about the course and my recommendation I say; If you want to work in transportation this is a great course to take, or if you have experience working and are looking for a new career path this is the course. But for someone coming right out of high school looking to start their career it can be difficult. In regards to the course work it is very all over the place. You do your introduction course then weeks later you do the actual course and are expected to remember everything from the previous one. If you put the two together you are giving people a better opportunity to absorb the information and learn. It was very stressful and there was a lot to learn, but if the courses were longer it would have been a lot better. Overall it was good. I learned a lot in the short amount of time I was given to learn. I am happy with the position I received as a job, but I found the placement on my own and had to do more research and educate myself on procurement. Had I not come out of it with a job I am sure my review would have been greatly different.

Work hard for a year, was filled with big hopes, end up in a dead end place.

You sold me a course that was extremely compact and from the start I had no chance to be hired in the Fredericton region since they are high rated jobs which demands EXPERIENCE! Now I understand why the course was working only in St John. I would need to be in Moncton or the St John region to have a chance and I don't have that luxury. For the past year I put at least 20 job applications and got call once for an interview.I am now working where I did my internship since they were impressed with my work ethic and my determination. So I passed one year trying to get myself a new career and I end up answering a phone at a help line for the province on a casual job. So no, I am not impressed and I feel I got ripped off on a course that can't be used in the Fredericton region. With all the years of experience I gained in the military,I should not have a problem finding a job in the logistic field.
