I reserved a truck to minimize the disruption to my life from a minor collision and had to actively advocate to get what I requested.

I believe that all the material I will disclose here has been provided to the staff at the time of my return of the vehicle. But regardless I will summarize my experience. I was not at fault in a minor collision, which cause my truck to be unavailable while it got repaired. In order to minimize the disruption I requested the use of another truck to use in the interim and was assured one was reserved for me. On the date of my pick up from the body shop I called to confirm that I was to be picked up at 8:00 a.m. while on route. Once I attended the body shop , after waiting 26 minutes, I had to call again as the staff advised that they only pick up when you are at the at the business and they sent a driver over promptly. Once at the business I was disappointed to learn that they had my reservation for a truck but had no plans on fulfilling that reservation at all. I was issued a small SUV which was not suitable to my needs and, although the staff appeared to be helpful, there was not a vehicle which would suit such as allowing me to tow a trailer or other means of transporting. They were able to suggest that a vehicle may be available Sunday but there was a narrow pick up window to obtain it. I explained that I would have sought alternate arrangements like securing a trailer or delivering the mulch I was planning on spreading had the staff informed me in advance that I would not be able to have the vehicle I requested. I spent the rest of the morning calling various rental places but was unsuccessful in securing a truck as it was the long weekend. In my frustration, I contacted Discount's toll free number to express my concerns. They offered to contact the office directly and I believed at that time that nothing more could be done. At 4:00 p.m. that day I received a call from a staff member who advised that a vehicle had just come in and would suit my needs. I brought back the SUV and they reception that I received could be best described as cold when I returned. Many of the same staff were there whom were there in the morning and most would not meet my eye. I spoke with the male who had secured the vehicle and thanked him for his efforts making the comment, " I hope they weren't bad to you. I did mention may times how helpful you guys were but I need a truck." His response was "We like it when people lie to head office" . I was incensed at the suggestion that I was a liar and would have addressed it at that point save not for a phone call which I had to take for work. I was pleased with the vehicle I was provided and that is simply the most positive thing I could say about this experience. I believe that Discount would have committed the offence of Fraud while billing my insurance company for a full size vehicle and lending me a smaller one in order to maximize profits. I spoke directly to the male who suggested that I was a liar and addressed his statement when I returned the vehicle which only served to make the situation more uncomfortable to him and his only offerance was "It was quite a day that day" and suggested that it was a heated issue without apology. I certainly hope to not to get into a collision again in that I need a rental vehicle but if I do I can assure you that it would not be with Discount.
