Discount Car and Truck Rentals...

The staff was initially helpful BUT - i noticed an extra charge on my credit card. I called and they are charging me for an extra day and mileage when i returned it on time (After hours just as we discussed and per the note they agreed to put on my file and well within the 48 hours i had rented for) and well under mileage allocation. After 12 minutes on the phone with them they said to call back when there was a manager in.....not great service.

The cargo van had mechanical issues that staff were aware of yet still they let the van be rented. I was not given a walking through of the van showing where to find gas tank etc...especially for newer model vans! Overall it wasn’t what we expected as well as the advertised price had changed but not on the website. I will use Discount again but I will ask more questions to be prepared.

I booked a 16 foot cube van to move from Ottawa to Toronto. When I showed up in the morning I was one of two people waiting for the same vehicle, though Discount didn't even have 1. The other customer was sent to Budget by the clerk at Discount for a 16 foot truck, while I was told my only option was to take a 26 foot 5-tonne diesel Freightliner. When trying to show me how the truck worked, I had some SERIOUS safety concerns. The clerk went to show me the truck and how the power lift works. He proceeds to place the truck in reverse while the ignition is on, puts the parking break on and comes out to show me the lift and says "this truck has no parking hear so we have to deal with the loud beeping in reverse"... I thought he was kidding, until I told him "Yeah, you need to put it in neutral if there is no Park." IMAGINE I didn't know this, and he went to use the lift in the back of the truck with it in reverse? Not to mention that the fire extinguisher was not strapped down (and flew everywhere within a minute of using the truck) and just a general feeling of lack-of-education with your staff. To add insult to injury, I was offered 10% off the truck fee (which was $5/$400) which isn't enough in my opinion. I would like to speak to someone regarding this experience to make sure I can also be compensated for the difference in fuel it took in the much larger vehicle, and the added stress of needing to drive it in downtown Toronto (a truck the size of a full sized school bus!) Staff were insensitive as they did not care that they were not able to provide me with the van I had requested. They then made me wait 45 minutes to bring g a large cube van to the location. It was too big and I was not comfortable driving it. No effort was taken to fix the situation. There’s more but one thing is certain I will never recommend the Alta Vista Discount location to anyone.

I had to wait over an hour because the only Debit machine wasn't working and they said they can't rent a vehicle without the machine. ( How about backups?)
