Great

My experience here has been great. When I first started here, I was extremely quiet. There was no way you would get a sentence spoken out of me. Two months into Medical Admin (May 2016) I joined the social committee and soon after I became a social butterfly.

Pharmacy Technician - 2016

Eastern College is very expensive for what us students get. We basically got typed up notes with lots of spelling errors for modules (made up by some "Pharmacist" in Halifax) and American textbooks that don't even pertain to us. This program could have been easily 10 months in length but they made us do unnecessary and irrelevant courses such as "Student Strategies" which is a complete joke, "Career Planning I" and "Career Planning II" because apparently they think it takes 2 weeks to make a resume. I believe part of the reason they drag programs out is because their instructors need their part-time hours. It's also hard for them to keep instructors because it's a part-time job and nobody wants to work part-time. They have a very high turnover rate for instructors. You also don't need to have a degree of some sort to qualify to teach at this school. Most of the instructors basically know nothing and just read off the book. Please save your $20,000 and go to school somewhere else worth it.

Child and Youth Care with Addictions Support Worker

What does Eastern College mean to me? In one word I would say family. I gained so much during my time at the school and one of those things was the amazing support system. I learned about many new community supports, nonprofit supports, government supports etc. I will be able to take this and use the information in my personal and professional career. I gained family members in my class mates and friends for life. I got to know all of the site staff and found everyone super helpful; they were quick to answer my questions and worked towards helping me move forward. During the course I learned about social issues, cultural awareness, family systems, child development, adult development, addictions and treatments, how to write reports, file paperwork, and so much more. While learning all of this I learned about myself, my family, my environment, community etc. I entered this program feeling like I was searching for so much and left feeling like I had made a great accomplishment. I am so happy to say that this course has forever shaped the way I will raise my family. It is true that there is no such thing as a bad kid. We learned through a variety of methods such as hands on learning, textbooks, tests, community outings, volunteer work, observations, role plays, group work, individual work, informational interviews and more. I would highly recommend anyone with a passion for helping children and youth to take this course. The months I spent in this building were some of the most memorable and rewarding I have had. I will forever be grateful for everything this opportunity has provided me. They always say you're going to miss this and wish you had it back and they are absolutely true! Amanda

Not prepared at all

I took the veterinary assistant course. It was a year long but only 4 months were dedicated to learning the veterinary aide of things. When I got a job I felt totally unprepared for it. There was not nearly enough time dedicated to teaching veterinary medical care and way too much time spent teaching me how to format a document. Now we have an Eastern College student doing her on the job training with us, she says the vet courses have been shortened to TWO months!? Why? How are they supposed to be prepared and secure a job when they aren't trained at all in vet terminology, instruments, procedures, common illnesses, surgeries, and so much more. We need to know this stuff for the job. And Eastern College isn't preparing students for the job they want. Overall very dissatisfied with this school.
